Black Swan Racing rider Lance Isaacs celebrated his first win in the South African SuperGP Champions Trophy in Zwartkorps over the weekend. In the first race he was also on the podium in third place.
Isaacs, riding the new BMW S 1000 RR this year, took second place in qualifying - just 0.072s behind the reigning champion Clint Sellers, who won both the opening races at the Phakisa Freeway. In Superpole Isaacs then took fourth place.
In the first race Isaacs battled for a long period with Mathew Scholtz and Anthony Shelley for third place and eventually prevailed over his opponents. "In the dry, we still have some problems," Isaacs said after race one. "We lack the mechanical setup for grip. Again we have made steps forward and we got on the podium. But we want more."
In the second race there was more to come. In the pouring rain Isaacs took over the lead and quickly pushed ahead. The BMW rider continued his hard work as the race progressed and eventually crossed the finish line victorious, completing the race ten seconds ahead of second placed Mathew Scholtz.
"It was an absolutely incredible weekend for me," Isaacs reflected on Sunday evening. "The BMW S 1000 RR demonstrated its true class, especially in the wet. It's an incredible feeling to win with such a commanding lead and it shows that I'm still in top form. "
"Next up in four weeks is my home race at Killarney Raceway in Cape Town and I hope that we will keep making progress there. I feel that we are going in the right direction to fight for the title in 2015."
Isaacs’ win and third place therefore saw him top the day’s points tally in the South African SuperGP Champions Trophy in Zwartkorps.
