Many riders were able to collect their first impressions of the 2015 BMW S 1000 RR at the BMW Motorrad Race Camp in Almeria - and all of them were impressed. Amongst them were road racing stars Guy Martin and William Dunlop as well as Superbike IDM talents Markus Reiterberger and Bastien Mackels.
Over the past few weeks many riders and participants of the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy 2015 have had their first chance to swing their legs over the new BMW S 1000 RR, and all of them have been immediately impressed. The Tyco BMW Team, which will take part in iconic international road races such as the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy (TT), had fans’ favourites Guy Martin and William Dunlop, nephew of the legendary Joey Dunlop and brother of last year’s TT winner Michael Dunlop, testing at Almeria. Martin: “I haven’t hardly touched a thing on the Tyco BMW S 1000 RR apart from footrests and bars and I’m more than impressed already. If I’m honest I’ve got more out of the first day on this bike than I did here last year for three days – so take from that what you will.“
Dunlop shared similar sentiments: “This bike feels like it was built for me and I normally struggle on stock tyres, but I stayed out almost all day and really enjoyed it. I did so many laps I’m almost dizzy. I already think this is the bike to be on this year.“
Markus Reiterberger also got his first laps under his belt, testing the S 1000 RR for the Superbike IDM and the FIM Endurance World Championship. “After two days at the Almeria Pirelli Test I have to say that I am more than happy with my new BMW S 1000 RR! Tyres, bike and team work perfectly together.” His team-mate for both the aforementioned championships, the Belgian Bastien Mackels, shared a photo of his dashboard on Facebook after the first outing. “Tried the new BMW S 1000 RR just without mirrors and with Pirelli slick tyres. You can see the maximum lean angle in the cockpit - L58°, R62°. The original bike is already very good!”
Tyco BMW will also field former MotoGP rider Michael Laverty, Tommy Bridewell and Alastair Seely in the British Superbike Championship. The trio got their first glimpses of the new bike in Spain. “I’m quite happy with what we achieved over the four days in Spain, and we leave there with a good understanding of the new BMW S 1000 RR after testing various parts and setting options,“ said Laverty. “We also have a clear direction on what we need to do to make the next step, so things are positive in the Tyco BMW camp.“
In 2015 there will be many international stars of the motorbike racing scene equipped with the Double R. Lukas Pesek (CZE), Michael Rutter (GBR) and Martin Jessopp (GBR) were as impressed, as were the riders of the IDM Wilbers BMW Racing Team with Lucy Glöckner (GER) and Matej Smrz (CZE). Dominik Vincon will ride the Superstock category of the IDM with the BMW Stilgenbauer Team and also took part in the testing work.
