Munich, Germany, 20/04/2016, BMW Motorrad Race Trophy BMW Motorrad Motorsport
The 2016 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy officially started in the middle of February – and it is already a huge success. Although the season is yet to get underway in many racing series, 74 BMW racers from all over the world have already registered. (For comparison: In 2015, the total number of participants was 104). They compete for 37 different teams in 19 different championship classes, and come from 18 countries on four continents.
This huge interest in the 2016 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy shows how well received this unique competition is by the global BMW Motorrad Motorsport family. However, this is just the start: the number of participants is set to climb even further over the coming weeks and months.
The deadline for registering is 30th June. Any BMW rider who registers by this date receives an exclusive welcome package. This contains everything a racer’s heart could desire, including a high-quality, milled footrest system.
A number of participants have already scored Race Trophy points this season, which means the first standings of the 2016 scoring period are now available. The top ten alone features BMW riders from six different championship classes. This shows how well-balanced the points system is and promises an extremely exciting season.
The first leaders, tied at the top of the standings, are Dominik Vincon and Stefan Kerschbaumer, who race together in the FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC) on a BMW S 1000 RR run by the Völpker NRT48 by Schubert Motors team. They finished third in the Superstock class at the season-opener in Le Mans.
Althea BMW Racing rider Raffaele De Rosa lies third following a win and a third place in the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup (STK1000). He is followed in fourth place by experienced South African rider Lance Isaacs (RSA SBK), while Jordi Torres from the MOTUL FIM World Superbike Championship (WorldSBK) completes the top five.
