Impressive showing at finale

Suzuka hosts end-of-season finale in the MFJ

Last weekend saw the MFJ Superbike All Japan Road Race Championship (MFJ) draw to a close with a grand finale: the Superbike riders headed to Suzuka for the final two races of the 2015 MFJ season. The BMW S 1000 RR riders ended the year with very good results.

In a strong field, featuring many works riders, the four RR privateers Daisaku Sakai, Shinya Takeishi, Yuuta Kodama and Koji Teramoto held their own in the Superbike class. The regulations in the MFJ allow Japanese manufacturers to use prototypes, meaning more factory teams compete than in any other national racing series. This makes the results of the BMW privateers all the more remarkable.

The most successful rider in this quartet of Japanese BMW racers was Sakai, who raced on the BMW S 1000 RR run by the CONFIA Flex Motorrad39 team. He ended the first of the final two races, which was late starting and reduced to nine laps, in 13th place. The second race had to be suspended and then re-started after eight laps. This time Sakai was 11th, equalling his best result of the season. Sakai ended the season 13th in the championship, making him the best-placed privateer.

His team-mate Takeishi and Team Tras135HP rider Kodama claimed their best results of the season at the finale. Takeishi came home 15th and 12th in the two races in Suzuka. Kodama finished 19th and 16th on his RR. In contrast, Kodama’s team-mate Teramoto was unfortunate, failing to finish both races.
