BWM dominates in France

Season finale in Albi

Florian Brunet-Lugardon bagged a brace of wins on his BMW S 1000 RR at the final round of the French European Bikes Championship (FR EU) in Albi, France. He was joined on the podium after both races by his brother Cyril. In total, eight BMW riders crossed the finish line in the top ten in both races. The French Superbike Championship (FSBK) also drew to a close for the RR riders in Albi.

Flying brothers on the BMW S 1000 RR

The seventh and final race weekend of the FR EU season was all about a pair of blisteringly fast brothers. Florian Brunet-Lugardon (Gers Moto Vitesse Ordannaise) came from second on the grid to win both races on his BMW S 1000 RR. In doing so, he claimed wins number three and four of the season. He was joined on the podium on both occasions by his brother and team-mate Cyril Brunet-Lugardon, who finished third in both races. Race one even produced a one-two-three for the RR: Benjamin Colliaux (Team CMS – R2T) finished runner-up to split the two Brunet-Lugardon brothers.

As has so often been the case this season, BMW was the dominant manufacturer at the front of the field. No fewer than eight RR riders finished in the top ten in Albi. In race one, Julien Brun (Team JB Racing) came home fifth, behind the three BMW riders on the podium. Team-mates Michael Amalric and Florian Drouin (GD Performance) were sixth and seventh. Madjid Idres (ERT BMW Motorrad Club France) and fellow BMW rider Frederic Pecoraro completed the top ten in ninth and tenth respectively.

In race two, not only did first and third place go to BMW riders, but also the five places just outside the podium. Brun was fourth, followed by Colliaux in fifth. Amalric again crossed the finish line sixth, ahead of Idres in seventh. Eighth place went to Léon Benichou (RMS), while Drouin came home tenth to claim the final top-ten spot.

In the championship, the Brunet-Lugardon brothers ended the season in second and third. Florian finished runner-up with 248 points after 14 races, just nine points behind champion Thierry Mulot. Cyril was third overall with 204 points. Florian Brunet-Lugardon’s double in Albi has also seen him climb from ninth to fifth place in the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy.

Pouhair and Jonchière in the points in the FSBK

The 2015 French Superbike Championship (FSBK) also drew to a close in Albi, but not before BMW riders Nicolas Pouhair (MSC Courneuvien 93) and Emeric Jonchière (ERT BMW Motorrad Club France) had added to their points tallies. Pouhair, who competes in the EVO class (FSBK SBK), finished sixth and eighth in this category (12th and 13th overall). He ended the season as the seventh-best EVO rider in the overall standings.

Jonchière came home seventh and eighth in the Superstock class (FSBK STK) (13th and 16th overall). He was on course for a spot on the podium in the opening race, but then dropped a few places as he struggled with a braking issue. This also prevented him from pushing flat-out in race two. Jonchière ended the season in fourth place in the championship.
