Victories in Spain and Italy

Carmelo Morales and Federico D’Annunzio top the podium

In the third race of the Spanish Championship (RFME CEV) at Navarra, defending champion Carmelo Morales celebrated his second win of the season. The BMW racers also enjoyed success at Imola, Italy, where Luca Vitali finished on the podium in the Italian Superbike Championship (CIV). In the Italian National Trophy 1000 (INT) race, the win went to BMW S 1000 RR rider Federico D’Annunzio. Luca Salvadori finished third, joining him on the podium.

In addition, the BMW riders have been in action in races of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) and the MotoAmerica (MA) at Californian Laguna Seca and in the SuperBike Series Brasil at São Paulo at the weekend. You can find all results in an overview below.

MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship at Laguna Seca, USA

The Laguna Seca Raceway, with the legendary Corkscrew turn, hosted the eighth round of the season in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK). On the track near the Californian city of Monterey, Loris Baz and the Gulf Althea BMW Team secured a top-ten spot. However, the Frenchman was unlucky on Saturday. In the crucial Superpole 2, Baz had to make do with twelfth place on the grid after a fall. In the race he fell again on lap three, but Baz was able to keep riding and managed to salvage a point for finishing in 15th place. In the race on Sunday, he worked his way up the field with a few overtaking manoeuvres in the race, finishing in tenth to secure a top-ten spot.

Spanish Championship at Navarra, Spain

It was the third race in the 2018 Spanish Championship (RFME CEV) and the second win of the season for reigning champion Carmelo Morales. In Navarra, the BMW rider of the Graphenano EasyRace SBK Team showed his expertise once again. Starting from second on the grid, Morales took the lead immediately and retained it right to the end of the race. After this win, Morales is the sole leader in the championship standings.

Carmelo Morales:
“The race was very demanding physically because it was extremely hot. I’m very pleased with the result, I was able to push 100 percent right to the end. Big thanks go to the team and to BMW, they provided me with a winning bike. This has given us a lot of confidence for the coming races.”

[Headline 3] Italian Superbike Championship in Imola, Italy

The Italian Superbike Championship (CIV) was at Imola at the weekend. Luca Vitali (DMR Racing) finished on the podium at the iconic track: he claimed third place in the second race. Vitali was sixth in race one. His team-mate Axel Bassani crossed the line in ninth and eighth place. Christian Gamarino (Tutapista Corse) finished the first race in eighth, but retired from race two.
