Four podiums in France

Success for BMW privateers in the FR EU

The long summer break is over: the riders in the French Superbike Championship (FSBK) and French European Bikes Championship (FR EU) were back in action last weekend. The “Circuit Carole”, close to Paris’ “Charles de Gaulle” airport, hosted the sixth and penultimate event of the season in both series. The BMW privateers continued their successful ways in the FR EU, claiming four podium finishes.

Title hopes still alive

The podium is familiar territory to the BMW privateers in the FR EU. And it was a similar story at the sixth race weekend of the season in Carole. Of the six possible podium places up for grabs, four went to the BMW S 1000 RR. Benjamin Colliaux (Team CMS – R2T) and Florian Brunet-Lugardon (Gers Moto Vitesse Ordannaise) flew the flag for BMW on the podium after both races. Colliaux finished runner-up in both races, while Brunet-Lugardon came home third on both occasions.

The first of the two races saw no fewer than six BMW S 1000 RRs finish in the top seven. Cyril Brunet-Lugardon (also Gers Moto Vitesse Ordannaise) was fourth, followed by BMW privateer Julien Brun (Team JB Racing) in fifth. Local favourite Florian Drouin (GD Performance) of MC Carole came home sixth, ahead of his team-mate Michel Amalric in seventh. Madijd Idres (ERT BMW Motorrad Club France) and Léon Benichou (RMS) completed the top ten in ninth and tenth. In race two, Cyril Brunet-Lugardon and Brun once again finished fourth and fifth. Amalric matched his result from race one, coming home seventh. Idres crossed the finish line in eighth place, followed by Drouin and Benichou in ninth and tenth.

Florian Brunet-Lugardon’s two third-place finishes saw him maintain his hopes of winning the title. Currently second overall, he goes into the season finale, which will be held in Albi on the final weekend in September, trailing championship leader Thierry Mulot (Ducati) by 26 points. Positions two to seven in the championship standings are all occupied by BMW riders. Florian Brunet-Lugardon has also made up ground in the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy after the summer break in the FR EU, climbing to seventh place.

Jonchière in the points in the FSBK

Emeric Jonchière (ERT BMW Motorrad Club France) picked up more points in the Stock class of the French Superbike Championship (FSBK STK) in Carole. He ended the first of the two races in 13th place in his class (18th overall). However, he failed to finish race two. In the overall standings in the Stock class, Jonchière is fourth out of 34 riders after the penultimate race weekend of the season.
