Laguna Seca, USA, 22/07/2015, BMW Motorrad Race Trophy
This past race weekend was overshadowed by a tragic accident: The BMW Motorrad Motorsport community was shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the death of the Spanish BMW Motorrad privateer Daniel Rivas. The 27-year-old lost his life in a serious racing accident in Laguna Seca, California.
Rivas started with a wildcard for Allende SBK BMW Racing in the Superbike class races of the MotoAmerica AMA/FIM North American Road Racing Series (AMA) at the weekend. The serious accident happened in the second race in the late afternoon on Sunday. On the first lap, a chain reaction caused several riders to fall. Rivas suffered such serious injuries that he later passed away in hospital. Yamaha rider Bernat Martínez from Spain also succumbed to his serious injuries.
The thoughts of BMW Motorrad Motorsport are with the families, friends and teams of Rivas and Martínez at this difficult time. The entire BMW Motorrad Motorsport community sends its sincere condolences.
Rivas successfully contested the FIM CEV Superbike European Championship (CEV) this season with the boxmotos.com EasyRace SBK Team. Just two weeks ago he was second on the podium in Motorland Aragón.
Ride in Peace, Daniel.
