Victory in Macau and Spain

An overview of the weekend’s race action

The eyes of the BMW Motorrad Motorsport community were on Macau last weekend. The BMW riders were determined to add to the success story of the BMW S 1000 RR in the urban canyons of the Asian metropolis at the 50th Macau Grand Prix. And they achieved their goal: like last year, the race produced a BMW one-two-three. Peter Hickman (Bathams/SMT Racing) won the thrilling race, crossing the line just ahead of his team-mate Michael Rutter. Martin Jessopp (RidersMotorcycles.com BMW), who started from pole and set the fastest lap of the race, finished third to complete an all-BMW podium. You can find more details of the BMW racers’ successful outing in Macau in our special news article.

There was also cause for celebration in Spain. Valencia was the venue for the season finale in the 2016 FIM CEV Superbike European Championship (CEV) at the weekend. Young Chilean Maximilian Scheib impressed with another fantastic performance at the final round of the season. He first secured pole position on his BMW S 1000 RR, run by the Targobank Easyrace SBK Team. In the race itself, he controlled the field from the front, setting the fastest lap on his way to a dominant victory. Scheib finished runner-up in the final standings in the 2016 CEV. He took ten podium finishes, including three wins, over the course of the season’s 11 races.
