Munich, Germany, 26/10/2016, BMW Motorrad Race Trophy
Last weekend, the seventh race in the SuperBike Series Brasil (BRSBK) took place in Londrina, Brazil. Honours went to the riders on the BMW S 1000 RRs once again, with a win for Diego Pierluigi and third place for championship leader Danilo Lewis.
In Londrina, Pierluigi was competing on the BMW Motorrad Alex Barros Racing Team RR for just the second time. He claimed another fine victory here, to go with his sensational debut win in September. But this time around, the race was a real thriller. The Argentinian rider was in second place for almost the entire race, tucked in close behind leader Diego Faustino and waiting for his chance. His opportunity arrived on the penultimate lap. Pierluigi swept past the Brazilian local favourite with a courageous manoeuvre - and stayed ahead until the finishing line. Two wins in two races on the RR: a great record for Pierluigi.
Lewis, who has been leading the championship standings since the first race, also turned in a strong performance on the TecFil Racing Team RR. He slipped back to eighth place in the early stages, but charged back up the field, finishing the race in third place to reach the podium. This allowed him to defend his lead in the championship.
You can find the results from the BRSBK race in Londrina below. Two races remain this season and the BRSBK finale will take place in Curitiba on 4th December.
Some members of the BMW Motorrad Motorsport community also took part in race events that do not score points for the Race Trophy – and celebrated successful performances there too. The historic “RST Race of the Year” took place at Mallory Park, Great Britain. Taking part: the BSB riders from the Buildbase BMW Motorrad Teams: Taylor Mackenzie, Richard Cooper and Lee Jackson. Mackenzie claimed victory to round off a season in which he claimed the Superstock class title in the British Superbike Championship (BSB STK): he won this classic race, which has been held since 1958. Jackson finished fourth, Cooper was fifth.
The Tyco BMW Team competed at the Sun Flower Trophy in Northern Ireland with Christian Iddon. Although he had never previously raced on the Bishopscourt Race Circuit, Iddon set a new lap record with his RR. He finished in second place in both races that he started. In South Africa, Lance Isaacs used the Kyalami Motorsport Festival to prepare for the season finale in the South African SuperGP Champions Trophy (RSA SBK), which will take place this coming weekend. His record in Kyalami: one win and one second-place finish.
